Everyone likes to smoke and enjoy this process. But one wonders how cigarettes of different brands are made. How does one get such an excellent taste and flavor?
The production of a cigarette consists of two main factory procedures. The first one is ”primary processing’, which is followed by ”secondary manufacturing”.
Primary processing includes conversion of dry tobacco leaves, which arrive in containers, weighing 200 kg, into large tobacco batches. These tobacco batches are suitable for making into cigarettes.
Secondary manufacturing means the process, during which high-speed machines are used to make filters, gather cigarettes and pack them into packet (carton boxes).
Primary processing – preparing the tobacco
So, the primary process converts tobacco leaf into batches of tobacco. Then everything is ready for making the cigarettes. By the way, this leaf will be stored for about 8-9 months. It will get mature and better smoking characteristics. After that it can enter the Primary process.
Conditioning, cutting and drying are three stages of the Primary process.
Conditioning
As a rule, tobacco leaf had already been dried before it was transported and stored. But this leaf should not be processed dry, otherwise, the part of it would become dust. That is why moistening or conditioning is needed. This step is achieved with the help of steam and water.
All leaves are placed into a ”Blending silo”, where they will be effectively mixed (blended). It is of great importance as every leaf is from different countries and different parts of the tobacco plant.
Cutting
After blending, the leaf is cut very thinly so that it can be made into a cigarette.
Drying
The tobacco leaf, which is previously cut, will be dried back to a moisture level. This moisture level is suitable for making cigarettes and smoking process.
