Salem is a brand of cigarettes. It was introduced on the market in 1956. R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company (RJR) was the company that manufactured these cigarettes for the first time. These cigarettes were filter-tipped. In other words, these were the first Menthol Cigarettes, which had a filter.
The brand received its name from Winston-Salem, North Carolina, the city where RJR was founded. Since that time Salem cigarettes occupied the leading position in the menthol category. This leading position made the brand become one of the best-selling cigarettes in the world.
Salem is now available in more than 30 countries, but only in hard packs. There are two main versions of Salem cigarettes in assortment: Green Label and Black Label. The Green Label has a more smooth taste, while the Black one – a stronger or harsher taste.
Salem cigarettes have enough menthol in order to cool and refresh, but not to overpower. Thus, the feeling of refreshing is calm and pleasant. There was found a “golden mean” of a taste.
